About

Welcome to Beauty and the Law! I am Elaine Ramesh, a PhD chemist and patent attorney. This blog covers my perspective on upcoming beauty technology developments and innovation.

The possibilities for technological advances in our future has always fascinated me; irresistibly drawing me to the field of intellectual property where I can be involved on the front line of innovation. To fulfill Law Review requirements, I wrote an article about legal implications of a development that wasn’t thought to be possible. In fact, the idea of putting a microchip in a person seemed so outlandish to some more than twenty years ago, that I was advised not to even bother to write on this topic. As the saying goes “nevertheless she persisted” and my article “Time Enough? The Consequences of Human Microchip Implantation” was published in 1997. Since that time, it has been widely read, the conversations on this topic have grown exponentially and much scientific progress has been made in that technical arena. Yet the legal implications remain largely unaddressed. So here I am, reviewing tomorrow’s beauty innovations today for you.
